I store everything on portable hard drives but I never listen to music on the go so I burn everything I want to listen to to disc - including mp3's (oh the horror!!! I hear the cries, you're diluting the trading pool, which would be difficult as I'm not trading!)

Also use a portable hard drive as back up. I create mp3 copies of flac files to save on my phone’s sd card as the flac files would take up too much room.

blu ray discs are very very handy if you have a lot of files, 20 +GB on each disc, personally i usually back up in 2 or 3 locations

Always worth having more than 1 backup. Also use Google Play Music as you can save loads on there for free.

I think if you don't rely solely on cloud backup it shouldn't be a problem - gives you an additional backup source. Also think Google should be fairly reliable, but could be wrong.

I use iTunes Match. Probably worth also backing them up somewhere else locally and online too, but I haven't been that organised yet!
